MSc “Information Management in Libraries, Archives, Museums”

The Department offers a postgraduate program entitled “Information Management in Libraries, Archives, Museums” since 2018-19. The program is offered both as a one year full-time course, or two year part-time course  and is addressed to graduates of both domestic universities or foreign institutions in accordance with the provisions of article 34 of law 4485/2017. Priority is given to graduates of the Departments of Archival, Library & Information Studies of the country, as well as equivalent departments from abroad.

The Postgraduate Program (MSc) in Information Management in Libraries, Archives, Museums aims to provide knowledge on information management in the unified web of libraries, archives and museums using new technologies and the possibilities offered by the digital environment, within which these organizations allocate, organize, hold and utilize information and develop relevant services for their audiences.

The purpose of the MSc is to provide specialized theoretical and applied knowledge for the retrieval, allocation, organization, dissemination and management of  information and to address the challenges posed by the digital environment. The MSc develops and expands on the knowledge students have acquired during their undergraduate studies and aims to strengthen critical thinking, the development of research and management skills and the application of best of practices in the management of information in the digital environment of libraries, archives and museums.

More specifically, the MSc focuses on providing specialized theoretical and research knowledge on information organization utilizing all the parameters of metadata and semantic entities, and focusing on data management and design of information systems for the needs of libraries, archives and museums. At the same time, a strong theoretical framework is being developed for the management of these organizations.

The syllabus comprises three semesters, two devoted to courses and one to the preparation of a master’s thesis. The attendance of lectures is mandatory. In the first semester the students attend four (4) courses and in the second five (5). In the third semester, the elaboration of the Master’s Thesis takes place.

The total number of credits (ECTS) required to obtain the MSc is ninety (90), sixty (60) credits from the successful attendance and assessment of courses and thirty (30) credits from the thesis.

Professor Daphne Kyriaki-Manesi is the director of the Postgraduate Program.

Who can apply?

The MSs program is addressed to graduates of both domestic universities and foreign institutions in accordance with the provisions of article 34 of law 4485/2017 are accepted in the MSc.

Priority is given to graduates of equivalent Departments of Archives, Librarianship and Information Systems of the country, as well as recognized like-minded departments abroad.

The maximum number of postgraduate students admitted per year is twenty (20).
