Professor
Sarantos Kapidakis is a professor at the Department of Archival, Library & Information Studies of the University of West Attica, in the field of “Informatics with emphasis on Digital Libraries and Electronic Publication”. He was appointed associate professor in 2002 and professor in 2009 at the Department of Archive, Library and Museum Sciences at the Ionian University, and director of the Laboratory on Digital Libraries and Electronic Publishing.
He has been employed by the National Documentation Centre, M.I.T. (USA), the University of Crete, and the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas. He received a PhD degree in Computer Science from Princeton University in 1990. He also holds an MSc. from Princeton University and a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. As part of his research on Digital Libraries, he participated in the DELOS Network of Excellence on Digital Libraries, and was the Chair of the 13th European Conference on Digital Libraries (ECDL 2009), in Corfu and Program Chair of the 19th conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries (TPDL 2015), in Poznan, Poland. He also served as Program Co-Chair of the 2nd conference PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments (PETRA 2010), in Samos. He has served as a member of the Steering Committee of the National Archives of Greece. His current research interests include digital libraries, electronic publishing, architectures, usability, interoperability, metadata, Dublin Core and information retrieval.
