By the end of the course, students will have:

  • Knowledge of key concepts related to digital content, metadata, standards, and interoperability. They will gain an in-depth understanding of different types of standards and their specific applications.
  • Understanding of the logic and usefulness of knowledge organization through metadata production and management methods. They will explore how various standards can be applied to manage different types of collections (archival, museum, bibliographic, etc.) and how metadata can be created and documented for various formats, including print and cultural or artistic works.
  • Application skills to develop specialized metadata profiles tailored to specific collections. They will learn to implement metadata standards, create customized metadata profiles, and apply techniques for producing interoperable metadata.
  • Analysis abilities to identify and assess the metadata needs of a collection, select appropriate standards, and develop customized solutions.
  • Synthesis skills to integrate different standards into specialized metadata profiles and adapt knowledge from one standard to new contexts.
  • Evaluation capabilities to assess the effectiveness, usability, and communication quality of the metadata profiles they develop.
