The Thematic Organization of Information course emphasizes new forms of organization and categorization of knowledge and information on websites, thematic portals, digital libraries, and repositories and, in general, on the World Wide Web. It refers to classification as a form of organization of content. It examines its historical development from the founders Aristotle, Bliss, Dewey, and Ranganathan to the present-day internet, Google, and generative AI applications. Navigating the users to credible resources out of a maze of miscellaneous information documents is part of the Library Information Science (LIS) business. This task can be accomplished through systematic categorization and classification of information. This course aims to introduce and train the students and future information professionals in the methodologies of semantic content management of books and other resources of variable physical forms. The attendees will be familiarized with using and creating taxonomic systems and rendering a taxonomic symbol that reflects each resource’s thematic content. Furthermore, they will be trained in thematic categorization, subject portals, and repositories to organize the content to assist the end user of any information organization or website.
