The course consists of two parts, its first part includes the basic principles that constitute the common information background of libraries, archives, and museums and its second and most extensive part is an introduction to librarianship.

It, also, includes, information and social sciences aspects, interdisciplinarity, and the role of new digital technologies becoming.

The course examines:

· Library science: scientific background and skills background.

· Archives science: scientific background and skills background.

· Museology: scientific background and skills background.

In addition, the course provides definitions of key concepts, factors affecting the form and evolution of information organizations, the role of information organizations and information scientists, the principles and values governing the services provided by information organizations, the international trends and policies, the characteristics of the information scientist profession in the digital age and the implications for education.

Also, national and international professional organizations, as well as other organizations are being described.

Furthermore, the students, learn how to analyze the community they serve and identify their informational needs. For each type of library (National, Public, School, Academic, Special), the context in which they operate, their goals, characteristics, staff, collection, services they provide, international standards, and relevant professional organizations are examined. Finally, the libraries’ basic operating parameters are being described, such as: collection development, library management (lending, automation, etc.), and information services, international and national practices and library evaluation methods and indicators.
