The students will acquire the ability to extract knowledge from free or organized content. They will also become familiar with the knowledge structures of taxonomy, dictionary, encyclopedia, thesaurus and ontology. While relational databases, as the main representative of information processing systems, they are not sufficient in cases where the inheritance of characteristics and the ability of the user to define customized relationships between different classes are required. Such information organization environments are the so-called ontologies.

In the context of ontologies, the students will have the ability to create a hierarchy of classes, define individuals of classes, define relationships between individuals of the same or different classes (object properties), define characteristics of individuals of a class (datatype properties), define classes through constraints, check the consistency of the set of certain classes, automatically extract a logical hierarchy based on class definitions. They will also acquire the knowledge of developing queries in SPARQL language. Finally, they will understand the triplet structure of the RDF language for document representation and will now have the ability to develop resource descriptions and compile them in the RDF language.
