Knowledge: In-depth understanding of a current applied research topic or a subject closely related to the student’s field of study. This is achieved through a thorough literature review.
Understanding: Comprehension of the scientific thought expressed by other researchers and the views presented in the literature. Additionally, the student gains a deeper understanding of the topic/problem they are studying and how it fits into the broader context of their field of science. This skill is developed through the literature review that is part of the thesis.
Application: The ability to write a scientific paper is developed by applying knowledge through the writing of a thesis. The thesis involves a small-scale original research project, which the student must choose and apply in a real-world setting.
Analysis: During the research process, the student develops the ability to analyze the specific research problems they have set and recognize their organizational structure or create sections that need to be examined as wholes. Additionally, the student learns to organize and analyze the research data they collect. The analysis, based on the research process, equips the student with the ability to identify problem-solving techniques.
Synthesis: While writing the thesis, the student develops the ability to synthesize the ideas/problems identified during the analysis. They also gain the ability to draw conclusions from the results of the research process by applying synthesis techniques. Furthermore, the student learns to apply these conclusions inductively and transfer the knowledge and conclusions gained to new situations.
Evaluation: Initially, through the literature review, the student gains the ability to evaluate and select sources for the synthesis of the thesis. Moreover, understanding the problem being studied and defining its parameters leads the student to evaluate the research methods and make the final choice of methodology, thus developing critical thinking skills. Finally, the student evaluates the research results and draws judgments and conclusions.
