The course presents the nature of archival records in their active or semi-active phase, as well as their significance for the administrative functions of public services and private enterprises. It also analyzes the design, policies, and procedures necessary for implementing a records management system within an organization. International quality systems, protocols, and best practices used by records managers in handling archival records that remain operationally useful are also examined.
Additionally, the course explores the nature of documentation and the methods for managing active and semi-active archival records by companies providing Records Management services. It also provides an overview of archival records and their treatment at a corporate level. The current legislation governing archival records is presented, with particular emphasis on data protection laws. Finally, the internal diversity and complementary nature of the records manager/archivist profession are examined, along with its relationship to related professions such as librarianship.
